ENHANCE OR NOT TO ENHANCE … THAT IS THE QUESTION (and the answer is “no need”)
“Six” was an amazing show - though I didn’t really need my hearing aids. We went to the 4 pm performance - “absolutely packed” with an equally loud/appreciative audience. Six “girls” with great voices telling their “divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded - survived” stories in song. Quite funny in places (No 2 seemed a bit upset she’d been beheaded). They were all on the stage from start to finish, plus four female musicians (I think .. “how can you tell”?, in Caroline’s words, “when they’re in the shadow, and have long hair.”) But it was a lovely outing with crowds of people everywhere. I could get used to this life of fun and generosity.
We went back “home” in a crowded train - where a very kind young man gave up his seat for us and an equally kind youngish lady swapped, so we could sit together - I think a NZ accent and grey hair is quite useful in such circumstances and we didn’t complain.
And so, for a couple of hours, we DID stop talking but the few days rushed by … we DIDN’T completely work out our relationship with the “uncuz” side of the tree but from the other side of the world, without so much as a “tree” in sight, good friend Sharlie explained that we’re evidently 3rd cousins to one another. But real, or imaginary, I continue to claim all and sundry as blood ties without apology.
“Cousin” Keith very kindly fought off motorway mayhem and pretty high temperatures yesterday to collect me from Caroline’s. About 1 hour 40 minutes each way. On the return journey, I regaled him with the search for black trousers at Marks and Spencers via the “bum enhancing shorts” … and just as we were approaching his home (after all that driving) we unexpectedly turned into his local M and S where I found a pair of suitably casual, but somewhat more dressy black trousers … but no “enhancers” … not that I need THEM. Instead we had afternoon tea there and I indulged in a mocha milkshake with an abundance of cream. A much cheaper way to achieve the same effect.
Keith is off on a pre-organised train trip to the Isle of White for the day with a group of U3A friends and Mandy is coming to take me out to lunch at midday. I guess I should really get myself showered and dressed.
It’s been raining quite heavily overnight - much to the delight of most. The grass everywhere is crying out for water, it seems … and thunder is forecast for later in the day. I managed to persuade myself to do some washing last night and it has already dried. So I’m off for a shower of the other - and will give my new trousers an airing - less the “enhancers”.
FOOTNOTE … whilst writing this page, I checked that I WAS using the correct terminology for “that” underwear. Whilst I STILL haven’t managed to put photos on this blog, it appears that - without effort or forethought, I HAVE managed to put them on Facebook. I really am NOT safe to be left on my own!!
