AND FINALLY ….

 I guess, first and foremost, I should thank Keith for turning 80 and my Australian family for encouraging me to join in with the celebrations in the UK.   I must listen to you more often.

It has been really great catching up with everyone (new and old) …. being amazed by how tall all the teenagers have grown …. and meeting some brand new offspring.  Plus dogs - old and new;  new homes; new vehicles;  new experiences.

I’ve been spoilt in so many ways and I’ve enjoyed every moment.

The addition of 6 days in Singapore on the way home, with a very generous Julie, was a great decision.  It was hot … it was humid … and it was very wet at times.   We packed a lot into those six days and it was  an excellent way to reduce the jet lag on arrival home.

I’ve managed to empty my suitcase and wash everything that needed it.  Have made a hair appointment for next week - already caught up with 9 or 10 local friends - put some home grown daffodils and jonquil in a vase and generally wound down to a more normal, less spoiled, way of life.

Tomorrow I shall get back to the more mundane - grocery shopping, trying to get some answers on my butynol roof, renewing my 3 monthly prescription, voting in the local elections and re-organising my Sky, electricity bill and rates rebate.  

Then, perhaps I should start thinking about June 2026 and whether I have convinced anyone to make a trip to NZ for a similar reason as I did it in reverse.

Oh for goodness sake

 Having nagged poor Sarah to get me a British SIM card, I then forgot to send the details in Blog No. 1. I WILL have my NZ phone and iPad with me, but I’m not sure my NZ phone will connect once we leave New Zealand shores.  My email address will still be in use and I guess WhatsApp will still be available.  Time will tell.  I’m sure it was much easier, when I did this 11 years ago. My British phone number will be:     074752.96413. Hopefully it will be up and ringing by 26 June.

It’s been that sort of day!!

 What should have been a quiet(ish) day turned into chaos of reasonable proportions … mostly of my own making. Thinking it was Matariki today, I reasonably assumed that the bank and shops wouldn’t be open - only to be told mid-morning, that Matariki is being celebrated next Friday.  Matariki celebration changes every year, based on the Māori lunar calendar, but always on a Friday.  Don’t blame ME - it wasn’t my idea.  So it was a late start for some rather rushed last minute shopping and banking … especially when I phoned the little man who was supposed to be fitting an automatic blind in my kitchen as a cunning deterrent for anyone thinking I was not at home.  He thought he’d told me he was coming at about 12 noon (he hadn’t) and that it would take an hour.  Long story short, he was still here at 5.00pm suggesting that because he was going to Bali on Wednesday and he couldn’t get the remote to work, I might just like to leave the blind down for the 3 month...
