SINGAPORE (2)
What a busy day! Another 10,000 steps according to Julie’s ap.
We woke reasonably early and breakfasted royally, before once more braving the underground, driverless train, to catch a bus which drove us around the city in a 90 minute circuit which gave us a bit of perspective around the city - at the end of which, we made our way to the Singapore Flyer (Ferris wheel) for a 30 minute circuit, giving us expansive views of the city as a whole - including the Formula 1 racing track being presently being prepared for the October event.
I can’t say I’m over fond of heights but the views were spectacular and we really couldn’t feel it making its way round - but just to prove how very brave I was:
We had the whole capsule to ourselves so moving around wasn’t quite as nerve wracking as it might have been … and so, possibly if our feet allow, we might go up to look at the view from the Skypark Observation deck, also pictured above, tomorrow. It’s certainly in a commanding position and quite a sight to behold.
If you’re overcome by the sight of me in a dress - the reason for that is - the dress code at our next venue, required one (preferably), but definitely not jandals or short trousers.
So welcome to the Raffles … for our 2 pm appointment for High tea:
Complete with the famous Singapore Sling - created in 1915 by a Raffles bar tender, making it socially acceptable for women to drink in public (and so - we did!!). Delicious - gin (of course) + pineapple and lime juice with Benedictine, grenadine and cherry liqueur providing the colour. Uncuz Christine very generously provided the funds for the latter. Neither of us are “drinkers” per c’est, but there were no side effects … probably because of the mountainous High Tea which came with it and we both enjoyed it immensely.
And then it was back to our hotel to put our feet up briefly before (this time) getting a taxi to go on a tour which included the Garden Rhapsody by the Bay featuring a light show amongst the trees … eventually getting back to our hotel by 9.30 pm.
A long - but successful day of so many very enjoyable activities - which is more than I can say for my aching feet.
The forecast storm did not arrive - and it was 31 degrees for most of the day.
Perhaps we’ll have a slightly quieter day tomorrow!!!
